So when transfers happened, Sister Morrow and I were given the sisters in the West Palm House to exchange with which is AWESOME! But also a challenge because they live an hour from us and we weren't given any more miles. So this week I sat down and figured out all the miles we would need just for exchanges and church and well, we don't have miles. haha. We usually use about 50 miles a day to work our area (because it is HUGE) and we are down to less than 15. Which is also really great because biking is the best. I love biking. I have just learned a couple of things from biking this week:
1. Who ever thinks Florida is flat, has never biked in Port St. Lucie where there are bridges every mile because those things have got to be at least 25 feet above sea level.
2. Port St. Lucie could really use an investment in Street Lights. And also Sidewalks. Because several times we reached a point where both of those ceased existing and had no other option but to lock up our bikes and run the last mile or so to our appointment.
3. Karma is a real thing. Between all the bridges and running and 20+ miles of biking every day, I am making up for every lap I swam without kicking. haha.
It was cool to do an exchange in West Palm this week because that was my first area in the mission and is sacred ground for me. It was just a fire exchange, so I was only there for an hour, but we knocked the "Indian Streets" (All the street names are Indians) and it was like going back to old times. It is always good to have a reminder that God shapes us through our missions and to recognize the miracles I was able to witness during my time in West Palm.
Another cool thing this week was the Conference we had on Sunday. It was announced as an extra Stake Conference and not a big deal was made of it, and because of that, many people took it as a "Sunday off". It turned out to be basically a session of general conference specifically for the South East area of the USA. It was live from SLC and we heard from two of the apostles and the RS general president and L. Whitney Clayton (...double check that name mom. haha.) The spirit was so strong and it was an incredible opportunity. It hit me hard how important it is that we surround ourselves with truth and with the gospel, and make an effort to have real intent in everything that we do.
I also had a scripture re-defined during personal study this week. I looked up the word "condecincion" from 1st Nephi 11:16-17 and it said "to be gracious about doing a thing regarded as beneath one's dignity." That opens up that verse in a whole new way. The angel is asking Nephi "Do you understand what God did for you that was way below His worth? That was way above what you deserved?" I think I say every week how much the atonement has been redefinided for me on my mission. Christ loves us so much and the more we come to understand and feel that love, the more power and strength we are given because we come to understand our purpose here on the Earth as well.
I love you all so much and miss you, as always. Have a good week!!!
Love,
Sister Bren Scadden
